I hereby ressurect Weird Friday in TT land.
Yes – quite insane as cartoons go, isn’t it.. but not without good reason, I assure you!
Delving back into the mists of psychotherapeutic time I have discovered a source of endless cartoonistential inspiration, namely that of **Any Psychoanalysis Text Written Before 1970**.
During my recent reading of a dusty old pamphlet from a dusty old second hand bookstore in Oxford (which is where they store and/or breed such things apparently) I discovered a chap called Ernst Kretschmer who was kicking about in the early 1900s. One of his more.. innovative.. theories was that body type and diagnonsense were linked. Two of the types he came up with were ‘Asthenic’ and ‘Pyknic’. Asthenic people apparently are skinny, introverted and neurotic whereas Pyknic people are stocky, gregarious and manic depressive in nature.
So there you go. Too many pies from the pic-a-nic-a basket and off the funny farm you go. As theories go, I diagnose this one as quite, quite barking.
Fortunately, as with much of the early thinking in pretty much any field, this one has long since been buried down the back of the couch or labelled under the collective grouping of Funny Things Grandpa Says That We Pretend He Doesn’t.
Still. Cartooning comedy gold.

May I also take this opportunity to remind you that it is Friday and therefore I have posted my weekly update of What-I-have-been-reading-this-week plus inevitable cartoon over on Shrink Things. Also, for the lady after my own heart who requested a new tshirt – thank you very much and here it is
(and for the extra weird among you, I notice that Cafepress is now stocking Republican/Democrat pyjama bottoms to go with your tshirt. Weird!)
